I should mention that I use a ProTools 8 on a MacPro running Mac OS X.5.8, so the following information is related to RTAS free audio plugins on Mac OS X machines with Intel processors. Find DigiDesign software downloads at CNET Download.com, the most comprehensive source for safe, trusted, and spyware-free downloads on the Web.
I like free stuff. I also like plugins. So I made a list of ones I know about. A lot of free plugins are garbage, but some are pretty cool, especially when you consider the price. I didn't hesitate to give my opinion because, well, I guess I never do.
Some of these aren't all that exciting, but I'll let you be the judge. If you know of any I didn't put on here, please let me know. And this list is only free rtas plugs that are universal binary. Izotope Vinyl - A cool record simulation plug in. Massey Tools.
HRMP, Listen, Slacker, Talkback, Wet dry, Mid Side, Recall Notes. Talkback is a great idea, no more gating talkback mics with time code. And recall notes is pretty useful too, I like it better than comment view. Not normal plugins, but they do some cool stuff. Key to Sound Remedy - A pretty cool free virtual synth. Well worth the price. PSP Vintage meter - A meter.
Sound hack Free sound bundle - Some of it looks like it might be cool, but I haven't done a lot with them. RNDigittal Inspector - A decent meter.
Nomad Factory Bundle - I've used these before and they're kind of fun, but I couldnt get them to work. Maybe they're not universal binary, I didn't really investigate. Tritone Color tone and Phase tone - I haven't tried them much, but phasetone seems like it could be cool. You have to install pluggo runtime, I'm not sure if its worth the hassle. Linplug Alpha free - A cool little virtual synth. Digidesign Structure Free - I use it to import exs patches from Logic, but it doesn't always do a great job of it. Xpand - Sounds ok.
Flux Bitter-sweet II and Stereo Tool - A Transient Designer type plug. It could be cool. Also theres a stereo image, phase correlation meter. Sonalkis Free G - Its a fader. It didn't seem all that cool to me, but whatever tickles your pickle. Fxpansion Orca - A monophonic synth. I really like it.
Brainworx bxsolo - A m/s tool with stereo width control. Kind of cool - Native Instruments Kore Player. A watered down version of Kore2, but it has some cool sounds in it. The upright bass is cool enough to make the download worth while. Ohm Force Frohmage - A filter. And if you don't have EQII, drag it out of the unused plug-ins folder into the plug-in folder. While I like free product as much as anybody, I have to take issue with calling Massey's plug-ins free.
What you get are demos that do not expire, but, as mentioned, are crippled in several ways. But what is more to the point is that Steven is a solo run operation that makes fabulous product and at prices that are miraculous. So I say let's support the little guys and if you like the demos, buy.
I am in no way affiliated with SM plug-ins. But I do use them daily. I agree the SM demo program is great but for the best band for your buck your first couple purchases should be the FXspansion VST2RTAS wrapper which opens up the world of FREE VST plug-ins and the Massy L2007 limiter. Steve has a small line of VERY good plugs, No bundles,No fluff, and each plug is musical and world class.
Nothing but RAVE reveiews for the new De:sser plug-in. I'm not afiliated with SM either just a fan. The RTAS Wrapper is a must and can be purchased at a 50% discount with the mellowmuse ATA plugin. Not trying to detract from the great thread just offer some advice on those making their first purchases. I never realized anyone noticed this post, but you are totally right.
The first link of Massey stuff on there are trial downloads. Sorry for the somewhat ignorant and misleading post. They are definitely worth the price and although I haven't purchased anything yet, I plan on getting the L2007. Its only like 90 bucks and it's his most expensive plug-in. They're great plug-ins at a great price and I believe you get 3 licensees?
I'm not sure, a friend bought the L2007 and thats what I was told. I also heard that if you purchase any Massey plug-in you get a free audio to MIDI mapping type plug in. It looks REALLY cool. You can check it out here: If there are any new free plug-ins floating around, reply them here so we can check them out.
I'm not sure if I can edit an old post or not but if I figure it out, I'll take out the Free Massey bit in the beginning.
