It's relatively fast, well constructed, and offers 2 terabytes of storage for only $100. There's a 1TB version for $30 less. I don't like their packed in backup software, however. This is primarily due to the fact that it didn't work at all:). But as a hard drive (its primary function) it's a really good deal.

From Fits my two missions perfectly I use this HD for two things: 1) I not only back up my complete iMAC system to it every night at midnight, but I also have made this drive bootable so if I have a main HD failure on my iMAC, I can not only boot from the Seagate drive, but have access to all of my programs.

Time Machine used for backup for MACs is not a bootable drive. And 2) Being shirt pocket size, it is the perfect travel HD for staying backed up on the road and having something to upload my photos to. NOTE: The drive comes formatted for a PC and must be reformatted for use with an Apple computer. It is a fast, easy process with the utilities to accomplish the task supplied by the manufacturer. Rated 1 out of 5 by David from Died within a week I don't leave negative reviews normally, but a hard drive dying is such a problematic thing, I wanted to get this out there in case it ends up being a bad batch of drives or something. Totally normal usage, only about 1/4 full, 5 days after unboxing, and the drive started making clicking and whining noises. It froze up my computer, and now the drive won't spin or be recognized anymore.

Luckily I always try to back things up and dupe them again, or I'd be up a creek. Anyway, in case more of these pop up as defective. I use my external hard drives for storing all my high resolution film scans and working TIFF files (many Photoshop layers) that quickly build up storage.

The Seagate 1 TB Backup Plus Slim is indeed compact and sleek, fast and easy to use. I mainly use my hard drives on Macs, but upon initial setup I chose to format the drive for both PC and Mac (in case I wanted to use it on the PCs at work). This posed a problem however- my Mac was unable to recognize the drive. But the problem was solved after a quick partition (instructions found on internet). I have no reason to backup social media, so I can't speak to that feature but overall it's easy to use and reliable! I did have to reformat it for use with my Mac, but was fairly easy to follow instructions for reformatting.

Very affordable for the space provided. I wish I could take advantage of the USB 3.0 speeds, because my computer is only 2.0 compatible. It would have been nice to have a converter for the 'Thunderbolt' port for higher speeds. But otherwise the backups didn't take too long to complete.

I was a little disappointed with the preinstalled backup software, which is why I chose to reformat the drive. I would have liked to take advantage of the Microsoft OneDrive 200 GB offer, but was unable to. Otherwise, great external hard drive. Rated 5 out of 5 by TMERE from Must-have for Apple MBA owners I was worried about setup and backup settings, it worked out of the box like I wanted without me putting any work. I bought an MBA with 128 GB of storage, and with 1TB Seagate slim backup I will continue to store more and carry more data without sacrificing money or weight.

Very fast, it copied my 120 GB music library in 20 minutes, and backs up my my MBA, MacBook Pro, and iMac separately fast and separately while still being able to use it for other storage purposes. One thing Seagate missed, is that the drive is attractive and small but doesn't have a suitable case to go with is, I bought 3 cases that were 50% bigger than the drive and usp cord, I wish they supply a better more appropriately designed case to go with this great external drive. Very quiet and with no vibration you can even notice unless you hold in your hand. Price-wise, this is the best option you can get for the money and it will surprise you in performance and aesthetic appearance. Rated 5 out of 5 by phl from Sleek, reliable and portable storage I chose this portable drive mainly because of reliability and that it can be used on both Mac and Windows at the same time without additional reformatting. I have had some problem with other external HDs where it only worked on one or the other because of the predetermined format, and it would have to be reformatted for other purposes.

Seagate also includes a very user friendly and straight forward application that can be helpful for those who are not using Mac Time Machine for backups. I like the portability, ease of use and amount of data it holds.

I carry it with me back and forth between the house and the office. This time I went ahead and purchased 2 extras drives to supplement my cloud storage for my large files: music and photos. I wanted to be able to keep a copy of those files away from home in case of a catastrophic occurrence. Relying only on the cloud is not very good when you're talking about large files, such as music (nearly 40,000 songs and growing) and photos (over 30,000 originals; some in DNG format).

Now, I'm confident that recovering those precious files will be easy, if I have to get them back in a hurry.
